Vancouver 2026 Day Two
By: Matthew
Grand Rising Compass Community Church, and anyone reading! God is so good! He has blessed the team with a beautiful house to stay at from Salvation Army hosted by Pastor Sharon. “First I thank God through Jesus Christ for you all” and the team all thank you all very much for your prayers and support! Compass Young Adults were blessed to be able to go and serve at Potters Place, a church that has to be called a “community service” because the government would not allow Potters Place to get left over food from grocery stores to be able to serve free meals and preach the gospel (THE GOOD NEWS) to our un-housed brothers and sisters struggling in addictions and sin. Potters Place is a church, but our government doesn’t allow churches to receive food donations from grocery stores, just let that sit with you for a while before reading this and pray over this community with the team.
Even with so many worldly challenges, Potters Place trusts and depends on the LORD. Every single service to God starts with prayer and they also end each thing with prayer. This is a true light, even a light for our team as we got the opportunity this year to help serve them in areas of need. We started off the morning at like 8:00 AM and after breakfast made our way to Potters Place to help serve their first meal of the day. Potters Place serves two meals a day, everyday and they preach the gospel and worship before serving the un-housed meals and eating all together. The team was able to help prepare and pray over the meal. After the service and lunch, the team was able to serve Potter’s Place in organizing food and tools and even creating a railing on their main staircase. After praying with Potters Place and saying our goodbyes, the team got to hear how God is working here in Vancouver. There is so much brokenness and a need, but God is also so present and working even when we don’t see it.
After heading out of Potters Place the team decided to do a community walk before heading back home for dinner. During our walk many team members realized the difference between the amounts of un-housed on the streets last year vs this year. We were told this is a result from the government attempting to “clean out the area” for the FIFA CUP coming to Vancouver. Again, just let that sit with you for a while before reading the rest of this blog and pray again with the team over this community. After a beautiful day the team made their way back home and prepared supper. We had a great meal thanks to Costco and their great priced chicken! After settling down and eating together with Sharon, we all started our devotional and studied the Eucharist. We really got to dive deeper about the importance of the Last Supper with Jesus, and how He served others, even the betrayer.
Thank you church family for keeping up with the team, and praying not just for us but alongside us. God is so good, and we are all looking forward to continuing getting to see God work. We pray you all have a great rest of your night and week, and that all the mothers have a blessed Mother’s day.
Best Regards & God Bless.
