Vancouver 2026 Day Five
By: Sathya
Hey hey! We hope you all are having an awesome week so far! Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support as we get to see how God is working in BC!
Today was our first full day in Salt Spring Island. The weather was nice and warm— 26° and sunny! First, we got up and had a quick breakfast before heading out to work. Abby, Tymon, and I dug up overgrown plants at the front of Grant and his landlord's house while Charlotte, Wade, and Matt went over to a beautiful house on the south end of the island. Wade was in his rock climber era, strapped to a harness and rope hanging over the edge of a cliff clearing broom (an invasive species on the island). Matt held the rope and did an awesome job of keeping Wade in one piece. Charlotte did lots of work in the vegetable garden, and they all did other yard work. We all met back at the church where we’re staying to grab some lunch and get ready for the afternoon!
Tymon and Abby worked hard scrubbing the siding and had some great conversations with the owners of the house. Matt and Charlotte helped out a super nice couple that they had seen on the trip last year, so it was great for them to be able to go back and reconnect with some familiar faces. The couple gave them chocolate cookies and were super grateful for their help! Wade and I went to a house and chipped away at clearing some broom from their field. The owners were away on a trip so Wade and I got to chat and catch up after being away at school.
After a hard day of work we all met back at the church to decide what to do for dinner. After some friendly debate, we ended up at Moby’s Pub which was delicious! Then we went back to the church to debrief about our day with Grant. He is the missionary that leads our work on Salt Spring Island. It’s super cool to see how God is working through him. He knows pretty much everyone in the area and really lives out Jesus’s love and kindness.
That’s all for today! Have an awesome week!
