Friday (by Hannah)

Hey guys welcome back to another blog, its your girl Hannah. Today was amazing and very tiring all at once. We started with coffee and breakfast before the kids came. I must say the coffee here is unreal, its truly the best. Then we moved into a time of worship where we sang new three songs. Part of the English class for the students was to do interviews with us. Some of the questions included things like hobbies, jobs, careers and some questions about our Christian walk and faith journeys. And then, it was go time!

We had the big Mother’s Day (Día de la Madre) event for the PILAS children who come in the afternoon. We walked from the house to the gym with all the decorations. Johnny almost had a big tumble in the streets of Guatemala, but the key word is almost because he saved himself so well. I think he was parallel with the road at one point but he’s doing more than okay now 😊

Any ways, once we made it to the place, set up began. Tables, chairs, flowers, curtains, projectors, sound set up you name it. We came back to the house for a quick lunch and changed into some nicer clothes for the event. And then it was go time again, this time for the actual event!

The moms and the kids started coming in. Barb and Gerry welcomed everyone and introduced us to the crowd who was very thankful for us. We went backstage to get changed into our makeshift costumes for the skit. Sandra, one of the teachers, narrated the story of five women from the bible. All of us took turns acting out the different characters which included Hagar, Hannah, Ruth, Esther, and Mary. For the most part, I think it was well received and understood. Many of the kids from the program sang and did presentations for their moms. It was really heart warming to see they way the kids show their love and care for their moms. We served them lunch of chicken, roasted vegetables and rice with papaya juice. And to finish it off cake!

We packed everything up and had a chance to say good bye to all the moms and kids. Its beautiful how much love and gratitude can be expressed without speaking the same language.

We headed back home to say goodbye to the PILAS teachers. One of the customs here is to say something special when saying goodbyes, this led to many tears as we expressed thanks and how much we will miss each other. Its very special and amazing how close you become with people in 5 days, memories that will last a lifetime.

The night finished with some pizza on the roof and a fortunate (yes, fortunate) loss for the leafs! You can thank my dad for making me a Habs fan.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and hear about our day. See you soon!
