Ready.... Set... Go!!

It’s been 3 years, but we’re back in Windsor with our Junior High Team!!

It was all clear sailing for our drive to Campbell Baptist Church, which is home base for us this week. After a short stop to drop everything off, we headed over to Bruce Avenue Park to get right to work. We made quick work of clearing a shed used to house all the sports equipment for outreach events here. After some sorting we were able to clean things up and re-organize the shed. We’ll be back to build some better shelves for this later this week. We also fixed up the quadcycle… a little tweak here, some oil there… and everything was smooth sailing. Of course, we had to test drive it for a few laps to make sure it was working perfectly!

We had some extra time, and about a dozen children showed up, so with the announcement, “Grounders!” everyone put their left foot in a circle and, well… I’m not sure. I don’t know how to play, but everyone else seemed to know what was happening, so I got out of the way and enjoyed watching everyone laugh and play together.

With the warm weather (+11), everyone worked up a good appetite, so we walked over to Toasty’s Grilled Cheese restaurant, which has become a favourite stop for our Windsor Teams. Toasty’s literally closed down the restaurant for our group and treated us like royalty!

We’re now all back ‘home’ for the night. This evening we spent some time talking about why we do missions. We discussed how our work this week can seem to be small or even feel meaningless to us, but that with God, our service and gifts are multiplied in ways that can be a rich blessing to those we’re serving. Something as simple as some overdue cleaning of a shed today freed up a ministry that is short on staff, allowing them to continue to focus on the children who attend each week.

As our day comes to a close, everyone is enjoying some snacks and games in the youth room. Day 1 has been a good day, and I’m excited to see the week unfold! I think I will sleep well tonight!

Blessings,

Rod

ps. Yes… unfortunately, the whiteboard sign was needed within minutes of setting up the guys room. That is one part of Junior High Ministry I have not missed, lol.
