Dominican Republic 2026 Day Three
Hey guys, it’s Kalli (burnt to a cutie little crisp) and Brooklynn who possibly has rabies and may or may not have broken a pipe. Today the wolf pack met up on the roof for our daily devotional where we were nonchalant and practiced silence and solitude. After spending time with God, we met downstairs for some flapjacks and mystery meat (sausages) and some delightful pineapple juice. After we devoured our food, we crawled up the stairs and put on our Sunday best for church!!!!!! On our 6-7 minute stroll to the church we witnessed some people selling mangoes and some dogs on the street. When we entered church we thought we were late, but they were just chatting away. We got to experience worship which was super amazing although it was all in Creole, God’s presence was so obvious. We even got to hear the hymn “Because He Lives” which some of us sang in English, while the Lighthouse team sang in Spanish, and the church sang in Creole (French)! Although we all thought we were going to melt, Brooklynn stepped up as the alpha of the pack and kindly donated her water to those of us who forgot.
After church we got to hit up the 6-7 minute walk back and we all came running at the sound of the lunch bell. We munched on some sloppy joes and we got cookies and chips and fruit for dessert. Fun fact, we had chicharrons which are made out of pigs… we were slightly sussed out. After lunch some of us went to our rooms to rest while others went swimming and played skibidi Ohio games down in the basement. Around 2:15pm we got ready to go and play some litty baseball with locals, safe to say we were in over our heads and got destroyed. However, the down pour during our game made for a super fun bonding experience (Tymon here… definitely no down pour. Can’t wait till they actually experience a real down pour lol).
Afterwards, many of us played soccer with the little kids from the community. It was so amazing to be able to bond with the Dominican’s through our shared love for Jesus and 67 jokes. Little did we know a cute little puppy from the streets would stroll by and it would all go down hill. One anonymous person decided it would be a good idea to pet the stray dog and now she may or may not have rabies. DON’T WORRY GUYS OUR LEADERS TAKE AMAZING CARE OF US, and Abby used Chat GPT to help us determine if the anonymous person would get sick.
After our fun afternoon outside we came back to the compound and played games until it was time for a delicious piggy dinner (aka we had pork and mashed potatoes). Then we headed down to the basement that’s down in Ohio for our nightly devotional. Tonight we discussed the 12 things that we should remember and consider during our missions trip. We got to talk as a big group and share what we loved about each point. It’s the big Brooklynn here and my favourite message was “In the treasure hunt of grace, our encouragement and affirmation of people may be our most significant ministry”. This really showed me how I can show God’s love through my actions. Hey gang it’s Kalli and my favourite was “God will not call us to do something without also giving us the resources to do it”. This really resonated with me because it reminded me that through God all things are possible and that he would never put us through anything we couldn’t handle. We’re ending the night with some swimming and a good night sleep before our big day of work ahead of us!!!!!!!!!!!!
