Dominican Republic 2025 Day Seven
Good night everybody! We had a fantastic day with the team, exploring and touring the city of Santo Domingo. Looked like a scene from Italy. But first, we woke up EXTRA early and watched the sun rise.
Jacob started off a little confuzzeled on whether or not the sun had risen or not yet and he didn’t know how to properly fold his socks, so we had a little lesson on sock folding to start our day. Despite that, the sunrise was ever so beautifully amazing, then we did our morning devos. We spent time journaling and reflecting on all we have experienced so far.
After devos, we had our breaky and giggled our way through the morning. Then we hopped on the bus and listened to some goofy sigma alpha music. We then made our way to the market and got to explore. Some of us bought some nice jewelry, gifts for family, and some cool wooden sculptures and souvenirs. A lot of us got to do some bartering for the first time and although it was something they were not used to, it was certainly an interesting and new experience.
Once we wrapped up our shopping spree, we got back on the bus and went further into the city. Once we got there, we took some swaggy pictures. We walked into a restaurant and were blown away by the amazing scenery that was behind the doors. It was almost like you were walking into a jungle that was inside. There were lots of plants everywhere and even a waterfall wall type thing. The food was amaze-balls. We all enjoyed our time getting new and yummy food and drinks. The food was so filling that we all ended up with food babies (other than Jacob apparently [EYEROLL EMOJI]). Then we made our way into the downtown area to do some more shopping and got lots and lots of coffee. We went to the store, and we were being little giggle monsters and everyone started giggling with us and being little wee giggle monsters giggling up a storm. On a serious note, we were having some fun and laughing, and then a few other people joined us and it was a fun moment of connection where we saw that no matter the language barrier, we still can connect through laughing and sharing the joy that Jesus instills in us. After some serious bartering and shopping, we all met back in the town square. While waiting for some others to join, Abby, Taryn, Keandra ate up the dance floor and starting doing the whip, the nae nae, and bouncing all over the place! Some people started to clap and cheer for us while we all danced. Once we all gathered back together, we headed back to the bus.
Once we made it back, we got our music privileges revoked, and they snatched the speaker so we couldn’t play our derpy music. On the way home, some of us had a much needed nap while others played some card games.
Although we were quite stuffed from lunch, we had a delicious dinner. Then we went on the roof and did our devos. We talked about the fruits of the spirit and then split off into pairs to pray for each other and someone else. It was very nice to be on the roof so that we could hear all the sounds of the community around us and see some kids running around and families walking on the streets.
Overall, today we had a joyful and restful experience being able to see God moving and working through those around us. The joy of the Lord is our strength and we got to see a beautiful example of that today.
Good night for now,
Abby, Taryn, Liv? <3
