Day 8 – Friday – Anna & Nathan

Concrete, concrete, concrete. You will never guess what we did today it begins with a C and ends with a E. Yep it was more concrete. Our day started with the usual morning devotions on the roof at 7:30. This morning was hard for most people as everyone was very tired sand sore. The breakfast was our personal favourite… Pancakes!!! We went straight on the road in the bus to the work site at Villa Altagracia.

We then went right to work the guys pouring concrete (yay).

The girls where sanding the room that will be the place that will teach electrical. We did this for 3 hours with several water breaks. After that a lot of us were getting hungry. We then all jumped on the bus and headed for lunch at the compound.

The lunch was amazing. It was ground beef and a bun with salad and rice. The fan favourite fruit was also there in the form of mango. The next thing we had our siesta where we can rest, take a shower, or swim in the pool.

The first 15 minutes we couldn’t swim because of thunder and lightning. The storms are weird and nothing like back home as it will thunder and lightning for 30 seconds with the sky all black. Then a minute later it is all sunshine and rainbows. The siesta is like you would imagine very restful. Unless you are in the pool playing a game and then you waste more energy.

After all that there is still the second half of the day which we jumped right back on the bus. We headed back to the work site. The boys did their favourite job of concrete while the girls painted the room they had finished sanding early today while blasting Taylor Swift! But before any of this could happen it rained for a good 15 minutes.

For the first little bit after it stopped raining, we had no sand for concrete, so we had to steal some sand from the mortar mix. The air was a lot cooler for the second work time as it rained just to the right of us cooling the air a lot and was incredibly refreshing. The air was so cool that we didn’t even need as many water breaks.

After all that was said and done, we found out we poured significantly more concrete then the lighthouse thought we could do in a week! We then went back to the compound and had supper of chicken and rice. After supper we had our devotions. That brings us to right now and us.

Where Rod is threatening to throw Anna into the pool.

The end see you guys in a few days.

** Editors note: Each year we come ready to do what is needed, but we have some options in the mix of construction and ministry (being with the kids). This year we heard there was a need to get as much of the wall done as possible. So, we have been construction heavy this year, but parents, you should be proud of your daughters/sons… the amount of heavy work they have done has been impressive and they far exceeded the expectations of what our little team could do in 8 days!
