Welcome to the Dominican Republic!
I feel like a small child on the night before his birthday, or even better, on Christmas Eve when I’m confident I’m getting that one present I have been waiting months for. I am so excited for the week ahead and all that God will be doing in and through this Young Adult team as we serve at the Lighthouse Projects in the Dominican Republic.
Currently, I’m sitting at the JFK airport listening to the conversations and laughter from the team as they get to know each other better. It has been an interesting journey for me to lead a team with Jen that only physically meet for the first time at the airport. We have people who have been at school in Barrie and Hamilton and who live in Toronto, Orangeville and Shelburne. Sure, we met for meetings online via video, shared countless emails and messages, but those are simply not the same as being in the same room.
During the next seven days, we will be living in close quarters while we do serve a community God has called us too. We will have opportunities and challenges. We will be uncomfortable and, in some cases, stretched to see a new normal. We will laugh, we may even cry. We will see injustice and poverty, community and joy that will shape how we see and experience the Kingdom of God.
This is going to be a good week. Thank you to those who have financially supported this team and please join us in praying for the team, this week and the people we will work along side this week.
God if good.
