Day 1 - DR Team update

Our first full day on our mission’s trip started with the whole team travelling villa Altagracia and working in the community. Our group was divided in half to work on both levelling a floor for a new building and brick laying. We both personally helped with brick laying for a wall around the church in the community. This is the first cross cultural missions experience for both of us and it was very a foreign experience at first however we soon adjusted and were able to see God working through us in the community. It was very eye opening to see the poverty and it allowed us to humble ourselves and appreciate the gifts God has graciously given to us in our home.

We also travelled to The Open Walls Church and ran some indoor activities for the children in the community. We had face painting, arts & crafts, games and lots o’ fun. The language barrier was tough however we were able to find simple means of communication and learn to bond with the community in a unique way. Because students from compass helped build the Open Walls Church it was very meaningful to see how their work is having a real-life impact in this community today.

It was a very impactful experience in our first day and we pray that God will continue to do his work through us in the coming week. Thank you for your many generous prayers and support, we will keep you updated.
