Day 4 - DR Team Update
Today was day 4 of our Dominican Mission experience. We had lots of fun and started our day off with the kids from the lighthouse school. This school is located on the compound where we are staying. We were able to do crafts and games with them including mini sticks. This is mini hockey which surprisingly they were better than most of us even though it was their first time. We also made bracelets with the older kids and got the opportunity to speak to them in English. We even got to sing happy birthday to Sofia in both English and Spanish. It was a great experience to be able to finally talk and communicate with them properly and feel welcome.
We also got to bring out the parachute with some of the younger kids and play some small games. One of them being the ‘mushroom’ game (which is like making a giant tent) where some of the kids started to sing the circus song from the Madagascar movies. You know the one.. Da Da Dadadada da da dadada..afro circus… this really made us see that they are not so different from us, and that even though in poverty they get to experience some of the same things.
In the afternoon we stayed at the compound and helped to finish paving a driveway. We were able to make the cement and work together with another group to further the construction. While doing this we got to know the other teams and their stories.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
During our devotions and debrief we got to discuss and go deeper into the fruits of the spirit. We were even able to go around and point out the ones we could see in each other throughout the trip. Another thing is that we got to talk about how we can pray and ask God to strengthen us through these.
We would also like to ask you to pray for our abilities to work on our fruits as we connect with children in the community and with each other. As well, we would also like to ask you to pray for all of our health and very red sunburns...!
Thank you all for your support throughout our journey, see you all soon!
